CORE Initial Report

Dear Colleagues:

We are writing to let you know that we have submitted our initial report to President Hogan.  It is now available on the CORE Web site and on the President's Web site: http://president.uconn.edu/pdf/COREReport1.pdf.

As you will see from the report, we are recommending measures that we believe can generate immediate savings/revenues that will have a $5M-$7M positive effect on UConn's budget.  Our analysis suggests that realizing such a substantial result in such a short period of time (i.e., by the end of FY10) will not be easy, but it is quite feasible and if we all work together, we can achieve these savings and revenues to help UConn address the difficult fiscal situation it is now confronting.

The report reflects the efforts of the entire UConn community. We received over 500 suggestions from staff, faculty, and students. On behalf of the CORE Task Force, we would like to thank all of you for the thoughtful suggestions you shared with us.  We believe you'll be pleased to see that many of your ideas are reflected in the recommendations in this initial report.

There are still many ideas we are continuing to analyze. We feel that additional savings and revenues are achievable, and with the support of President Hogan, we will develop an additional set of recommendations by the end of the current fiscal year.  As we continue our work, we hope that you will continue to share your thoughtful and innovative suggestions with us. Our Web site (http://core.uconn.edu) remains available for your input and, of course, you can e-mail any of us at any time.

Once more, we are very grateful for the hundreds of ideas you shared with us – through e-mail, our Web site, and in our town meetings.  We will continue to communicate with you regarding our progress in the months ahead and hope that as new ideas come to you, they will be shared with us.

Sincerely,

Peter Nicholls, Barry Feldman, Rich Gray
